| Downtown Manhattan, Inc. is a not-for-profit community volunteer agency working in areas of organization, promotion, economic restructuring and design to increase consumer business; to strengthen professional and retail business institutions; to assist in the preservation and maintenance of the heart of the community’s heritage; and to promote pride in the community’s institutions and achievements for the benefit of the entire Manhattan community.
Manhattan was one of the first five cities designated to join the Kansas Main Street program in 1985. The Kansas Main Street program is a self-help program that was established on the basis
of using a common sense approach to tackle issues of revitalization, capitalizing on downtown’s history and identifying
the resources of the community itself. There are over 1,300 Main Street cities across the United States and 22 in Kansas. For every public $1.00 investing in Kansas Main Street cities, the return is $675.00 in private dollars. We all have a stake in the future of downtown. The health and vitality of our downtown inevitably communicates our community’s larger capacity and self respect to the outside world. So, join our program today and help us make a difference! |
